  • The NZ Distance Riders North Island 800 event occurred in October 2023 in Ohakune. This biking event challenged riders to cover 800 kilometers in 12 hours. The starting and finishing point was Rally HQ at Kings Accommodation. On Friday evening, a rider's briefing took place, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared anticipation for the upcoming journey. Despite the weather forecast indicating rain and wind along the route, the excitement continued.

  • The revealed route commenced in Ohakune headed south to Whanganui, then proceeded up to New Plymouth, Raglan, and finally returned to Ohakune. Len Unwin and David James from Hawkes Bay represented ITA, both of whom completed the ride within the allotted timeframe, undeterred by the challenging weather conditions.

  • Participating in events like these is truly rewarding. They bring together riders from all corners of New Zealand for a shared experience. The NZ Distance Riders club goes beyond the thrill of biking by actively supporting worthy causes, including Muscular Dystrophy New Zealand. This connection is exemplified through the annual 1KC rides, where the proceeds serve a meaningful purpose.

  • The funds generated from these rides contribute to providing Christmas gifts for children affected by muscular dystrophy. In collaboration with Wellington Ulysses Club members, the NZ Distance Riders channel their efforts towards making a positive impact. Additionally, a direct donation is made to Muscular Dystrophy New Zealand, further emphasizing the commitment to supporting those in need. It's heartening to see the biking community come together not only for the love of the ride but also to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
